Pay no attention to the strangers in my flickr sidebar…

Each week my photography forum posts a picture in need of editing. Each member has a chance to try their hand at an edit and then a vote takes place to determine the winner. Right now I am participating to stretch my learning curve of photoshop…there is so much to learn! This week only I will post the before and after but strangers will be popping up on flickr each week!

Sharpening

OK so I have learned that many photographers sharpen their pictures more when they will be displayed on the web! When you upload a photo to a website the resolution is greatly diminished. If you sharpen more than you would for print the picture is supposed to improve for viewing. Tricky!!

This is my experiment: Can you tell which is sharpened for the web?

“Ava”

I love the sound of that word. I used to always tell my first graders my favorite word, I just liked the sound of it…onomatopoeia (the word to describe sound words like crash!)…fun to say, right?!!! Anyway, now there is no word that makes me smile even more, the name of my amazing little girl.

Anyone can say it and it makes me smile but only one person has made me tear-up! Ava’s weekly playmate and friend from birth, Hope now says “Ava”…could anything be sweeter?

What fun it has been to watch them grow together. Here are pictures from our Tutu play date before I left for Michigan (and before photoshop). Hope was somewhat of a reluctant ballerina but I got a few good shots anyhow!

Baby T.V.

So when Ava was born I chalked a video baby monitor up to one of those ridiculous expenses that was for either the “paranoid mom” or the “I need all the best stuff mom”. It is along the same line as the baby wipe warmer, silly, but I admit I did buy into that one!

Right now however, while I sit here and type I am listening to my adorable baby talking away with the sweetest voice.  I find myself wondering; is she reading a book that I left in her crib, talking to her stuffed animals, watching her butterfly mobile??  I guess there is something endearing about wondering and imagining but it would also be fun to see..

maybe video monitors are not so silly!

What a comedian I have…Ava is always making me smile! Here are just the top five that have me giggling inside and out!

1. Ava has decided that she must be sitting in a lap to hear a story. The way she manages this is to stand about two feet away and back up until she gets to your lap. Every time she does this I think she needs that beep…beep…beep sound trucks make when reversing! She even tries to set on our pets lap…so cute!

2. Ava loves to jump…although she does not quite make it off the ground yet! It is just multiple squats in a row with a smile and clap for herself when she is done.

3. Ava has discovered the fun of our overstuffed rocking chair. She loves to be the one rocked but will also walk over and rock the cats while they sleep or even place her baby doll on the chair to rock!

4. When I am blowing on food to cool it off she has to also!

5. Ava has an entire language all her own. She babbled before but now it is complete sentences. She picks up her play phones and has entire conversations, complete with pauses.

Bonus: Ava will often not keep her very pretty hair clips on but loved this one of my moms. What a goof! She is also holding a lemon…she LOVES lemons!!! She must get this strangeness from her daddy’s side of the family!  (JK)

Sorry pictures are not really in focus but they were too funny not to post!

yhst-83878190403399_2058_6449712When I decided to abandon my sweet smelling French Mustela baby wash for the safer less toxic California Baby I was not so sure. A few months later I am pretty much sold. We have been using the Calming shampoo and body wash which smells delicious; scented with lavender and sage. It lathers nicely and is concentrated so you need very little allowing it to lasting quite a while. My only complaint would be that it takes a while to rinse out of Ava’s hair. I guess a small price to pay for a sweet smelling, safer alternative. Click to reference previous article: Researching the Toxic Tub for more information on bath products.

Since Ava has become increasingly interested in bubbles it may just be time to bring out the California Baby bubble bath!

Next up researching sunscreen!  Any suggestions welcome!
