Just what would Ava be for Halloween?…. Oh decisions!

At first I was leaning towards creating a Jessie, from Toy Story 2 costume, but truly Buzz is Ava’s favorite character. If she had asked a Buzz costume of course would be permitted but since she is not quite at that stage I held out for something a little more girly! Laugh if you must.

Then in the mail my answer arrived… The Pottery Barn Kids Catalog! Ava stumbled upon a picture of a ladybug costume and began shouting, “Ava ladybug!” She tore the page from the catalog and slept with it for three days, a decision made easy! The costume featured however was a whopping $69! RIDICULOUS!  So I made my own…

I created the pattern free hand and hand stitched all the felt pieces using embroidery thread.  As for the tutu I used my own tutorial found here.  I must admit however that the ladybug treat bag from Pottery Barn was too cute to pass up and a much harder project to recreate.  I think well worth the $16 especially since Ava loves nothing more than carrying things everywhere it will get plenty of use.

Old Navy:

  • Black long sleeve t-shirt $3

Jo-Ann Fabrics:  (with a %50 off one item coupon)

  • 5 Yards red tulle
  • 1 yard black tulle
  • 2 yards black grosgrain ribbon
  • 6 black felt squares
  • red and black embroidery thread
  • Black elastic
  • black headband from the $1 bin

TOTAL COST $16… NOT bad if I do say so myself!

Pottery Barn Kids Costume $69

As always my little darling hardly cooperated with photos but you get the idea… doesn’t she make the cutest ladybug?
